Singareni miner killed, another hurt in accident

KARIMNAGAR: A coal filler of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) D. Mallaiah, 45, was killed and a badili filler Suresh was injured when the sidewall of the mine in which they were working collapsed at the GDK 2 (A) incline in Ramagundam region on Friday. Suresh is undergoing treatment in Singareni Area Hospital. - Staff Reporter

Attacks wife, ends life

Srikakulam: A labourer Raja Rao committed suicide while his wife Rajya Lakshmi is struggling for life at a hospital in Mubagam village of Polaki mandal near Narasannapeta.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police A. Srirammurthy, Raja Rao, suspecting his wife's fidelity, allegedly attacked her with a knife. Assuming that she was dead, Raja Rao ended his life by consuming pesticide. - Special Correspondent

Three trains to halt at Mantralayam

HYDERABAD: Three express trains will stop at Mantralayam Road railway station from June 1 in both the directions on an experimental basis for six months.

According to a press release issued by the South Central Railway on Friday, the trains were 1043/1044 Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express, 6502/6501 Bangalore-Ahmedabad-Bangalore Express and 6340/6339 Nagarcoil Junction-Mumbai CST-Nagarcoil Junction Express. - Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Applications are invited for admission to Master of Arts and Master of Philosophy programmes offered by Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Gachibowli. Constable injured in exchange of fire

WARANGAL: A constable was injured in an exchange of fire with the Maoists in the early hours of Friday in the Kothaguda forest area.

Md. Ziaullah, 23, who sustained a bullet wound, was shifted to a private hospital in the district headquarters where his condition was stated to be out of danger.

Superintendent of Police M.S. Ravindra said that the naxals fled the spot leaving behind 11 kitbags. The district police intensified combing operation in the area. - Staff Reporter

YSR pays tributes to Jawaharlal Nehru

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Friday paid glowing tributes to former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on the eve of his 42nd death anniversary. FAPCO appeal to Civil Supplies official

HYDERABAD: The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Consumer Organisations (FAPCO) has urged the Government to allow people belonging to weaker sections to draw kerosene and rice for May till June 5.

Held on attempt to rape charge

Sangareddy: The Zaheerabad police took into custody Mohammad Ahmad of Alugolu village allegedly for trying to outrage the modesty of a RTC conductor late on Thursday. Leather park in G.D. Nellore mandal

CHITTOOR: LIDCAP Chairman Reddappa at a press conference here on Friday said a mega leather park would be established in G.D. Nellore mandal in the district on an extent of 470 acres. A leather cleaning industry would be set up at Nalgonda at a cost of Rs.5 crores, he added. - Correspondent
