Former Rajasthan Speaker dead

Jaipur: Former Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha speaker Poonam Chand Vishnoi died in Jodhpur on Thursday night after a prolonged illness, family sources said.

He was 82 and is survived by his wife, son and two daughters.

He was admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Jodhpur about a month ago after he complained of respiratory problems, they said.

Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Rajasthan governor Pratibha Patil, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Sumitra Singh, AICC General Secretary Ashok Gehlot and several other political leaders have condoled the death of Vishnoi.
