Three-year-old run over by road-roller

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: A three-year-old girl died on the spot when she was run over by a road-roller near the office of electricity department in Chuttugunta on Friday.

The Machavaram police said that Kemburi Parimala, daughter of Venkata Ramana fell down from the bicycle of her father and came under a road-roller. Venkata Ramana, along with his wife Nagamani, ran a teashop near Anjaneya Swamy temple in Chuttugunta.

When Venkata Ramana lost control over his bicycle while he was taking his two children to his tea shop, his daughter who was sitting on the iron bar between the seat and handle, fell down. His son Karthik (5), who sat on the pillion, jumped from the cycle. The accident occurred when they were about to enter the main road.

Even as the baby girl was trying to get up, a road-roller coming from Maruthi Nagar, hit her and ran over the baby, the police said.

The driver, however, stopped the road-roller. The police took driver David Raju into custody. The body was sent to the Government General Hospital for a post-mortem.
