Man hacked to death by gang

BANGALORE: A man with criminal antecedents was hacked to death by an armed gang in Madivala police station limits on Thursday.

The police gave the name of the victim as Raju alias Snake Raja (25), a resident of Jaibheemnagar.

There was a history sheet against him in the Madivala police station, the police said.

Around 9.30 p.m. Raju was standing near a bakery in Jaibheemnagar waiting for a friend to go to Thiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu.

Eight persons, led by Ramesh, came there and tried to attack Raju, the police said.

In a bid to escape he entered the bakery, but was dragged out and attacked with swords and choppers, killing him instantaneously.

The Madivala police, who have registered a case, said Raju was murdered following gang rivalry.

Ramesh was once an associate of Raju, they said.

Detained

The police have detained Vijay Kumar alias Kavala, against whom there are 14 criminal cases, under the Goonda Act.

On recommendation made by Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Alok Kumar, Commissioner of Police Ajai Kumar Singh has passed orders detaining Vijay Kumar (33) of Hosur Road under the Goonda Act.

He has been lodged in Bellary Central Prison.

According to the police, there is a history sheet against Vijay Kumar in the Madivala police station.

He is an accused in 14 cases of murder, kidnapping, extortion, robbery and rioting.

Student killed in accident

An engineering student was killed when a lorry hit his two-wheeler on Kanakapura Road in Thalaghatpura police station limits on Friday.

The police said the accident occurred around 10 a.m. near Somanahalli Gate.

The victim has been identified as Bharath (21), a final year B.E. student of APS Rural Engineering College in Somanahalli. Bharath was a resident of Tata Silk Farm in Basavanagudi.

The Thalaghatpura police have seized the lorry and registered a case. In another accident, one person was killed and two were injured when a lorry rammed the multi-utility vehicle by which they were travelling on Bangalore-Mangalore Highway in Kudhur police station limits in Bangalore Rural district on Thursday.

The police said the accident took place around 10 p.m. near Solur inspection bungalow. The identity of the dead person is not known.

The injured have been admitted to the government hospital in Nelamangala.

The Kudhur police have registered a case.
