State to execute monorail project on its own

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said here on Friday that the Government would execute the monorail project on its own and there was no need for it to seek the Centre's approval for implementing it.

When his reaction was sought to Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy's statement on Thursday that the Centre had not received any communication from the State on implementing the monorail project along with metro rail in Bangalore, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the Government would take up the project on its own.

The monorail project would be implemented with public-private participation.

The State had already announced that that the work on the 18-km stretch of monorail as a pilot project would begin in August or September.
