This Day That Age
Film actor Charles Chaplin said in London on May 27 he had no intention of ever returning to the United States. "There is nothing wrong with the American people - it is the top who decay and putrify," he said. Mr. Chaplin, now in London to work on his new film, "A king in New York," issued the statement after being made a life member of the Association of Cinematograph and Allied Technicians and a member of the British Film Academy. He said he had no plans for showing this film in the US - "I am not even interested." He added that he had no intention or desire to ever go back to the US. Mr. Chaplin is the star actor, producer and director of his new film, which will be completed in seven weeks and will portray the travels of a European king in New York.
