Lakhera and Rangasamy to attend `Guru Pooja'

Pondicherry: The 169th annual Guru Pooja of Sithanananda Swamigal would be performed on the premises of the temple dedicated to the swamigal at Karuvadikuppam on Pondicherry-Lawspet bypass road near here on Monday.

The swamigal attained "jeeva samadhi" on the 15th day of Tamil month of Vaigasi (in 1837) at the site where the temple has come up now.

The Temple Trustees Association headed by P. Rajakannu has drawn up plans to hold the pooja on Monday.

Lt. Governor M.M. Lakhera, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, Ministers and legislators would be among those who would offer prayers at the sanctum sanctorum.

Special poojas, abishegams and aradhanas and distribution of food to the poor would be held on the occasion.

Regular visitor

The Tamil poet Subramania Bharathiar who was a regular visitor to the temple penned his famous "Kuyil Paattu" in the then mango grove in the vicinity of the temple.

He had also written a lyric in praise of Sithananda Swamigal, which is engraved, on the sidewall near the sanctum sanctorum.
