Preparations on for swearing-in ceremony

S. Nadarajan

It will be the first time that the ceremony is taking place outside Raj Nivas

PONDICHERRY: With the Rangasamy-led Congress Government poised to take office on May 29, the Ministerial chambers are getting a face-lift. The offices of the Chief Minister, the Ministers and the Assembly are located in the same campus.

Working overtime

The staff are working overtime to get the chambers allotted to the five new Ministers — V. Vaithilingam, E. Valsaraj, M.O.H.F. Shah Jahan, P. Angalane and Malladi Krishna Rao — ready.

Relatives of a Minister were seen personally supervising the arrangements and works being carried out in his chamber. Arrangements are also being made for performance of `puja' in many offices.

Structural changes

A `Vastu-conscious' group suggested structural changes in one of the chambers.

Some Ministers seems to have personally chosen their office with the view in mind.

Hence, the chambers were chosen cautiously, said an official.

The building, a heritage structure, underwent "modifications and redesigning" whenever sentiment-based aspirations of the Ministers were given recognition.

Preparations are in full swing at the Gandhi Thidal for the swearing-in ceremony here.

The south-facing stage has been erected between the Gandhi statue and the Thidal. This is the first time that the ceremony is taking place outside Raj Nivas, office-cum-residence of the Lt. Governor.

A special enclosure has been erected for VIPs and other invitees.

The Department of Information and other departments are engaged in the distribution of invitations, even as the ceremony is less than 24 hours away.
