Plea on Ramagundam fertilizer unit Sir, The Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals under the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers had approved revival of Hindustan Antibiotics Limited and Hindustan Organic Chemicals Limited, with a package of Rs. 500 and Rs. 250 crores respectively (The Hindu, May 24). However, the Ministry had ignored revival of fertilizer units at Ramagundam (Andhra Pradesh), Talcher (Orissa), Sindri (Jharkhand) and Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) under the administrative control of the Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited (a Central Government undertaking). The Corporation was wound up leaving hundreds of crores worth equipment worthless despite numerous appeals by the employees for revival or for conversion into any useful production units. As far as Ramagundam unit is concerned, it would be an appreciable act if the State Government takes over the factory from the Centre and converts it into a 500 MW thermal power plant. This will meet power demands of Telangana to some extent and develop it industrially. N.S.R.Murthy, Ramagundam IMA decision casual Sir, It is very said that the reservation of 27 per cent seats in the institutes of higher learning has created flutter and divided the society on the basis of caste. As the UPA Government is determined to implement the reservation policy for OBCs in these institutes, there should be a debate or a committee to go into the problems of the economically backward people of the forward class families and the issue of creamy layer of the OBCs, SC and STs. There should be an amicable solution to this grave issue without any one taking political advantage of it. It is most unfortunate that the rift has developed in Indian Medical Association due to its policy to oppose the reservation issue by supporting the agitating medicos. This resulted in the formation of parallel organisation by the OBCs, ST and SCs as Indian National Medical Association. In fact before taking a decision, the IMA should have elicited the opinion of its members. A social and political issue should to be dealt with in such a casual manner. JP. Reddy, Nalgonda Selfless service Sir, Almost all who preach are not sincere. Some among them are solely born for preaching without practising. The learning of head of a particular religious discipline is different from that of the other. Hence the condemnations or assertions which keep the followers in constant dilemma. But are the sages free? We do not know. One who works all-day for a real course of selfless nature for the society and takes the name of God twice before and after relaxation, is the true devotee . P.Satyanarayana, Hanamkonda
