Rival communities clash in old Ahmedabad

Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD: The police burst about a dozen teargas shells to disperse two groups of clashing mobs in the communally sensitive Popatiyawad in Gomtipur locality in old Ahmedabad on Sunday.

The situation, however, was quickly brought under control before it further deteriorated. The police said the clash was sequel to a minor scooter accident in which the two persons involved belonged to the rival communities.

Stone-pelting

Soon the people from both sides collected and started pelting stones on each other forcing the police to burst teargas shells.

The police said none was injured in the stone throwing. The situation was claimed to be under control in the evening.
