Video libraries turn against Aamir Khan

AHMEDABAD: After the owners of the multiplexes and the single cinema theatres, it is now the turn of the video libraries and the traders in Compact Discs (CDs) in Gujarat to turn against the Bolywood hero, Aamir Khan.

Several of the video library owners in Vadodara, Rajkot and other cities in the State said they had stopped selling or renting out CDs of Aamir Khan's old and new films. They said the original CDs of his controversial film "Fanaa" was yet to be released, but they would not trade even the pirated CDs of the film.

Similarly the cable operators also voiced their opposition against Aamir Khan and said the pirated CDs of "Fanaa" should be available within the next few days but they would not show the film on their channels.

The decisions of the video libraries and the cable operators are apparently influenced by the BJP Yuva Morcha's call to boycott of Aamir Khan's films till he apologised to the people of Gujarat. Even as some of the owners of the multiplexes seemed ready to "condone" Aamir Khan after his "clarifications" on Narmada dam and showed readiness to screen "Fanaa" if the State Government extended support, the BJP Yuva Morcha did not show sign of relenting.

A Morcha activist said on Sunday that its volunteers would "picket" in front of the video libraries if anyone was found dealing in Aamir Khan CDs, particularly "Fanaa".
