Appoint Telugu teachers through DSC

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Official Language Commission has appealed to the Government to appoint language teachers for strengthening teaching of Telugu while constituting DSCs.

A.B.K. Prasad, Chairman of the commission, in a press release, expressed displeasure at lack of opportunities for those who completed higher studies in Telugu. Such candidates could benefit if Telugu language teachers were appointed through the DSC, Mr. Prasad said. - Special Correspondent

Anti-quota stir flayed

HYDERABAD: The strike by medical students and doctors against reservations has acquired an anti-social form and content, People's Union for Civil Liberties has said.

In a statement here on Sunday, Keshav Rao Jadhav, president, and other office-bearers of PUCL observed that to state that caste-based reservations divided society was "height of self-deception." It was the caste system that divided society and kept down 80 per cent of the population.

96 Intermediate students booked

HYDERABAD: Ninety-six candidates were booked for various offences on Sunday during the Intermediate advanced supplementary examinations. As many as 3,77,165 students under the general and 9,332 under the vocational streams registered for the first and second year subjects.

R.P. Sisodia, Secretary, Board of Intermediate Education, said in a press release that the examinations went off without any untoward incident. - Special Correspondent

Hacked to death

ANANTAPUR: Differences between two labourers led to a murder at Sajjaladinne village near Tadipatri in the district on Sunday. According to the police, Nagaraju and Khasim were working in a slab-polishing unit. After work, Khasim allegedly used to go to Nagaraju's house in a drunken state and abuse him and his family members in a filthy language. Vexed with Khasim's behaviour, Nagaraju allegedly hacked Khasim to death with a sickle. - Staff Reporter

Woman murdered

Kakinada: Mande Chinna allegedly attacked his wife Divya, 20, with a hunting knife and hacked her to death in Singaraya Colony of Peraramachandrapuram village of Anaparty mandal on Sunday. Family dispute was stated to be the reason for the murder. - Correspondent

AIDWA plea on marriage registration

HYDERABAD: The All-India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) has urged the State Government to take up measures to make registration of marriages mandatory as per the Supreme Court directive.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, AIDWA city vice-president C. Aruna said that the Supreme Court had made registration of marriages mandatory but lack of awareness about the law among people, especially women, was a matter of concern. - Staff Reporter

Monsoon enters

coastal Andhra

HYDERABAD: The South-West monsoon advanced further into the State on Sunday and entered the coastal Andhra region. It is expected to set in over Telangana anytime now.

The State's highest temperature of 36 degree Celsius was recorded at Machilipatnam.

There was rain at a few places in Rayalaseema and it was isolated in coastal Andhra. Proddatur received a rainfall of 3 cm and Tirupati and Veeragattam 2 cm each.

A forecast says that moderate to heavy rain is likely at many places in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema, and light to moderate rain at a few places in Telangana. - Special Correspondent
