Rajahmundry: People of Godavari districts are known for their hospitality. This has been proved again at the on-going Mahanadu of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

Three things were the talk of NTR Pranganam, the venue of the three-day conclave, on the second day on Sunday. They were, delicious food, a record in blood donation by a TDP functionary and distribution of cake to street-children on the occasion of party founder-president N.T. Rama Rao's 83rd birth anniversary.

Huge cake

In the morning, TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu and N. Harikrishna went to Kotipalli bus stand and garlanded the statue of NTR. Later, Mr. Naidu cut a huge cake to mark the occasion. It was distributed to passers-by, rag-pickers, street-children and others.

For gourmets among the delegates, it was a satisfying round on the second day, too. They had `pesarattu' to savour in the morning, a non-vegetarian spread served with `Cheruku Rasalu' (a well-known variety of mango) for lunch and the lip-smacking Kakinada's Kotaiah round `kaja' in the afternoon.

Diehard fan

A record that won the appreciation of all was the one set by Nataraju, a party worker from Mahabubnagar. His blood donation on Sunday was the 71st such donation. "For the last 20 years I have been donating blood on NTR's birth anniversary," Mr. Nataraju said.

According to R. Rajendraprasad, a doctor, some 350 bottles of blood were collected from TDP workers.

Then, there were two vehicles that caught the attention of almost all delegates. Madanmohan of Serlingampally came to Mahanadu on his specially decorated bike, which was covered by hoardings. Another functionary S. Muneer Ahmed won appreciation for his non-stop cycling on the pranganam premise and also in different parts of Rajahmundry, from the day before Mahanadu commenced till Sunday evening.
