JAIPUR: The Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, has called for protection and preservation of the infinite cultural and artistic identity of Rajasthan.

Mr. Shekhawat was speaking after laying the foundation of an art gallery and museum named after the noted painter late Ramgopal Vijayvargia in the neighbourhood of the historic Jal Mahal on the outskirts of Jaipur over the weekend.
The First Secretary at the Japanese Embassy in New Delhi, N. Toyo Fuko also was present.
Mr. Shekhawat also planted a tree in the premises of the proposed gallery and museum.
Narrating the longstanding traditions of Rajasthan in art and painting, Mr. Shekhawat mentioned the Kishengarh school and the "Phad" and "Pichwai" styles, flourishing in the former States of Rajputana in the past.
The paintings, which
"Our efforts should be to facilitate the artists to work in a conducive atmosphere and to give a proper recognition to their work," Mr.Shekhawat said. He termed Ramgopal Vijayvargia as an artist who dedicated his life to art and literature.
