Basanagouda Patil R. Yatnal
BIJAPUR: The demand for expulsion of Bharatiya Janata Party MP Basanagouda R. Patil Yatnal continued from the party members for the fifth consecutive day on Sunday. Mr. Yatnal had demanded that Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa be removed from the party leadership. He had also accused Mr. Yediyurappa of ignoring loyal workers of the party. Addressing a joint press conference here, party's zilla panchayat member Rebayi Uppaladinni, taluk panchayat member Mahendra Naik, members of the Bijapur Municipal Council Ravi Bagali, Ashok Nyamgouda, Sudhatayi Pandey, Anasuya Ghanti and Prakash Mirji pledged support to Mr. Yediyurappa. They criticised Mr. Yatnal for his outburst against Mr. Yediyurappa. The MP should understand that the party had come to power in South India for the first time and the opportunity should be utilised to strengthen it. Mr. Yatnal's criticism of the Deputy Chief Minister had helped the Opposition and dented the BJP's image. He should be expelled from the party to prevent further damage to it, they said. Asking Mr. Yatnal to introspect, they said that he could not get the Bijapur-Gadag broad gauge line completed even though he was Minister of State for Railways in the NDA Government. Mr. Yatnal was trying to give an impression that his revolt was for the sake of party loyalists. But he himself never treated party workers well. Because of this, most of his associates had distanced themselves from him. Accusing Mr. Yatnal of being self-centred, they alleged that he had tried unsuccessfully to get a berth in the State Cabinet.
