Why two States? Make it four

Why two States?

Make it four

A handful of disgruntled politicians have been triggering regional differences by provoking the so-called Telanganites to fight for dividing the State while themselves enjoying power in the UPA Government. If they believe in the creation of small States, why not divide Andhra Pradesh into four -- Coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema, Telangana and above all, Hyderabad (with Secunderabad and Rangareddy district forming the composite cluster). The metropolitan area consists of 90 per cent of non-Telanganites and has acquired a cosmopolitan status like Delhi. The verdict of the local electorate in each of these parts should be studied threadbare. Attempts of some unscrupulous people cannot be allowed to be a precedent in this country.

Stop police

harassment

I appreciate the Commissioner of Police for carving out a city task force to check anti-social activities and protect law-abiding citizens. But, the task force staff is seen collecting money from kiosks and petty traders and they also beat up the public near kiosks indiscriminately. I was a victim of the task force while eating noodles in Sagar Nagar on January 6. My father was away then and my mother, out of sheer mental agony, died three days later. Since I am a student, I could not complain to the police immediately. I appeal to the Commissioner of Police to protect all law-abiding citizens and ensure they are not harassed at least in the future.

Postal problems

The A.P. Postal Circle launched a scheme called `Bank on your postman' last week. There are many vital areas to which the Postal Department should pay serious attention and one such area is postal service and customer relationship. Last year I represented to the Superintendent of Post Offices relating to two issues in Akkayyapalem but there was no response. If the department wants to compete with courier services, it should install letter boxes in important areas of the city like Akkayyapalem 80 ft. road, Akkayyapalem highway and in Abid Nagar area. The frequency of clearing letters in the boxes should be increased and steps should be taken to send the letters faster than courier services. Also, more branch officers of mobile post office on wheels should be operated. The functioning of the department should be streamlined before people lose faith in it.

Do something

about the stench

It is unfortunate that the Government-run ENT hospital in China Waltair does not maintain proper hygiene. The toilets emanate unbearable stench. Though the building, landscaping and gardens give the hospital a `corporate' look, the toilets are so bad that patients dread using them. I request the hospital authorities to take corrective action.
