Contractor shoots self in suicide attempt

NEW DELHI: A 32-yer-old contractor allegedly shot himself in the right temple in a bid to commit suicide inside his Santro car at Bawana in North-West Delhi on Sunday. A suicide note was found in the vehicle.

According to the police, Sudesh, a resident of Alipur, was found in an unconscious state inside his car parked in the service lane with blood oozing from his right temple around 6 p.m. He was rushed to Jaipur Golden Hospital and the police were called in. They recovered a revolver from the vehicle, which turned out to be registered in the name of Sudesh.

The police also recovered a suicide note in which Sudesh wrote that he himself was responsible for his action. "His condition is serious," said a senior police officer.

Gangsters killed

NEW DELHI: Two gangsters, including one carrying a reward of Rs. 1 lakh on his head, were gunned down in an encounter with a joint team of the Special Cell of the Delhi police and their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal at Secundarabad on Saturday. Two firearms were recovered from their possession.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police Karnal Singh, the Special Cell received a tip-off that Ranpal Gujjar would pass by old G.T. Road in Secundarabad on Saturday. Subsequently, the Special Cell shared the information with the Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal police and team was formed to carry out the operation.

Around 10-30 p.m. on Saturday, the police spotted the suspect on a motorcycle with another person. They asked them to surrender, at which the duo allegedly opened fire at the police party. In retaliatory fire, both the accused were gunned down. They were identified as Ranpal and his accomplice, Ishanpal.

Mr. Singh said Ranpal was the brother of Naresh Bhati, who had an old enmity with another gangster, Sunder Bhati.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has issued notices to the Delhi Government, ASI and others on a PIL seeking removal of slums from the area near the protected monument Khan-i-Khana tomb in Jangpura in Central Delhi.

A division bench headed by acting Chief Justice Vijender Jain issued notices to the respondents to file a reply to the allegations by the residents of the area.

Notices had also been served to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Commissioner of Delhi Police.

The Jangpura Resident Association alleged that hundreds of people including Bangladeshi illegal migrants had encroached on the land on the banks of a drain, said the petition filed by its president Manu Chaddha.
