NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi may have started de-sealing of shops operating from residential areas, but it would take days before trading and business activities return to normal as many shop-owners are still struggling to get their power and water connections restored. Though the Delhi Jal Board have given permission to the traders to get their connections restored from an authorised plumber as there was no need to wait for their field staff to do the job, it is with the private power distribution companies that they are facing problems. Traders have alleged that discoms were not only seeking de-sealing certificates from traders before issuing them a temporary connection by charging re-connection fees, they are also demanding some advance payment to be made that would be later be adjusted in their monthly bills. They have also accused the discoms' employees of harassing them by demanding various documents before issuing a power connection. Meanwhile, traders whose shops remained closed due to sealing process for over a month are now replenishing their stocks and contacting their suppliers for new stocks. Markets like South Extension, Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh, Greater Kailash, Sadar Bazar, Rajouri Garden, Jankapuri, Pitampura, Laxmi Nagar and Preet Vihar, where a large number of shops were sealed during the MCD drive, are now trying hard to get back to normal business.
