PATNA: Union Energy Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said on Monday that following the nuclear deal inked with the United States, more nuclear power stations would be established in the country, even with help from the private sector. He said the Government had taken note of the scope for improving nuclear power. At present, nuclear power accounted for only three per cent of total generation in the country.
3 MoUs signed
Mr. Shinde and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar spoke to mediapersons after the State Government and the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) signed three MoUs, which included the take-over of the Kanti Thermal Power Station by the NTPC. The NTPC will have a major stake in the joint venture, to be known as the Vaishali Power Generating Company Limited. Mr. Shinde said the plant would be renovated in 18 months. The NTPC authorities were hopeful of generating power at the Barauni station within the next few months. It would spend about Rs. 500 crore on these two projects. The third MoU pertains to setting up a sub-transmission station at an estimated cost of Rs. 629 crore. Mr. Shinde was here to lay the foundation for the Barh Super Thermal Power Project of the NTPC.
