Office of profit

I searched in vain to find out whether Parliament at least now had brought out an amendment to the Constitution to restore the cherished democratic right of the people to protest.

Parties and organisations were rightly vocal when nearly 2.5 lakh government servants initially lost their jobs overnight for having protested against the reduction of their pension.

Further, the Supreme Court had gone to the extent of holding that government servants do not have even a right to protest for a just cause.

But to my dismay, I found greater urgency being shown by Parliament to expand the exemption clause of holding of office of profit. I think Parliament should change its priority and give greater importance to citizens' rights.

N.G.R. Prasad,

Chennai
