Visitors throng CMO

Hyderabad: The Chief Minister's Office saw a heavy flow of visitors on Monday afternoon with more than 50 MLAs and MPs, several of them with a couple of followers at least, thronging the `C' Block at the Secretariat. After about 30 minutes of receiving visitors seated in his chair, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy walked up to the door and finding the corridor full stood there for the next 80 minutes receiving their representations.

Sureedu's family

joins Congress

Hyderabad: Family members and followers of former MLA K.Suryapratap Reddy who was slain by his rivals recently in Anantapur district joined the Congress here on Monday. Ms.Kalavathamma, wife of Suryapratap Reddy met the Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy at the Secretariat along with her son K.Venkatram Reddy and spent about 15 minutes discussing local politics.

Later, on the advise of YSR she left for Gandhi Bhavan where she along with her son and supporters joined the Congress in the presence of the PCC president K.Keshava Rao. - Special Correspondent

JAC plea on Rangachary report

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday directed officials to take steps for implementing the Rangachary Committee report on several issues concerning Government employees. According to a press release issued by the Andhra Pradesh Joint Action Committee of Employees, Teachers and Workers, Dr. Reddy instructed officials following a presentation made by leaders of the committee at a meeting in his camp office. The issues include revision of PRC master scale, increasing HRC ceiling, extension of technical scale to drivers, change in designation of class IV staff and sanction of stagnation increments. - Special Correspondent

Workshop on fire safety

HYDERABAD: Labour Minister G. Vinod has advised factories to take adequate steps to prevent fire accidents in their establishments.

He was inaugurating a workshop on `Fire safety in factories' organised by the Department of Factories in association with the Andhra Pradesh chapter of National Safety Council, here on Monday. Over 140 participants from various organisations attended the meet. R. Koteshwara Rao, Director of Factories, and chairman of the council, made a presentation on the fire accident scenario in the State. - Special Correspondent

Pilgrim electrocuted

TIRUMALA: In a bizarre incident a pilgrim was electrocuted at the TTD's third pilgrim amenities complex, here on Monday morning. According to the Tirumala police, Prakash Gharge (25), native of Osmanabad district in Maharashtra, was arranging the luggage atop the Sumo vehicle when he accidentally came in contact with a high power live wire hanging overhead. He was rushed to the Aswini hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Man commits suicide

TIRUMALA: A couple on Monday attempted suicide by consuming pesticide in the vicinity of Sri Anjaneya Swamy temple 7 km from here on the Tirumala footpath. The incident came to light when some devotees walking on the footpath heard them groaning and alerted the police who rushed them to the SVRR Hospital, Tirupati. While the man identified as T. Raghuram (22), of Mandanambedu village of Satyavedu mandal, died in the hospital this evening the condition of the woman was said to be critical. - Staff Reporter

SSC exam: 76 cases booked

HYDERABAD: Seventy-six cases of malpractices were booked by the flying squads during SSC public examination (first language paper-I) conducted on Monday. The maximum number of cases booked was 24 in Ranga Reddy district, a press release issued by the Director of Government Examinations, Andhra Pradesh said. - Special Correspondent
