HYDERABAD: Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan or even Aishwarya Rai may well play the lead in videogames with purely Indian content soon, if FXLabs Studios Pvt Ltd, a videogame development/production major, sticks to its schedule. Suresh Productions, the film production major, and its wholly-owned subsidiary Spirit Media, already making waves in post-production and animation, has secured a 35 per cent stake in FXLabs. Suresh Daggubati, Managing Director, described it as a strategic partnership in realising the global market potential for videogames.
New avenue
Announcing the partnership here on Monday, Mr. Suresh said this was an opportunity for Indian producers to tell stories through videogames. "Until now people thought only of telling stories through films. There is life beyond films too, and this is a new opening for them." Tony Garcia, CEO, FXLabs, said the $3 million was not just an investment. "We are expecting to partner with the strength that Suresh Productions and Spirit Media can bring to this exciting business. Videogaming is even larger than the television industry and we hope to leverage the potential and give Indian content to people here," he said.
Good potential
Rana Daggubati, MD, Spirit Media, said "FXLabs' expertise in the exciting sector of videogaming made them a natural partner for the group. The investment was being added to many aspects of Spirit Media's end-to-end media entertainment technology services. This would open up business opportunities in the domestic and global media and entertainment market." Mr. Garcia gave presspersons a preview of `Inferno', FXLabs' newest production, an action/horror game. Another game under production is "Archie's Riverdale Run" that brings the world of Archie comics in 3D for the first time.
