SCB polls: draft voter list to be published on June 16

Staff Reporter

Scrutiny on July 12; last date for withdrawal is July 15 Scrutiny on July 12 ; last date for withdrawal is July 15

  • Dates for electoral rolls, modifications fixed
  • No reserved seats for women, OBC candidates
  • Code of Conduct already in force

HYDERABAD : The Secunderabad Cantonment, in view of its Board elections on August 6, has fixed June 16 as the date for publication of a draft voters' list. After that, three days will be given to residents of the seven wards under the Board to raise objections and apply for additions or deletions.

With June 18 being Sunday, the public can approach the Board with objections, additions and deletions on June 17, 19 and 20, after which three days will be given for hearings on the objections.

The final electoral rolls will be published on July 7 while nominations will be accepted on July 10 and 11.

After scrutiny on July 12 and allowing time till July 15 for withdrawals, the final list of candidates will be published on July 17.

Secunderabad Cantonment, which is the only one out of 62 Cantonments in the country where elections are being held, will not have any of its seven ward seats reserved for women this time. There are no reservations for other backward classes either. Only ward 4, the biggest one, is reserved for scheduled castes/tribes.

    No EVMs

Though no electronic voting machines will be used during the elections and there are just around 30 officials to monitor election duties, including revision of electoral rolls, Board officials do not foresee any major hiccups in the process, since the rolls are supposedly revised every year from May to September.

Meanwhile, the Code of Conduct for the polls has come into force from May 19 when the Defence Ministry issued a notification to SCB for the election. This is the reason for the foundation laying ceremony of the long-awaited 96 Safaiwala Quarters being postponed.
