Shanti Desai passes away

NEW DELHI: Former Delhi Mayor Shanti Desai passed away in Ahmedabad on Monday evening. He had gone there to meet his relatives. A bachelor, Mr. Desai suddenly fell ill and was rushed to a local hospital where he breathed his last around 5 p.m.

The body is being flown to Delhi and cremation will take place at Nigambodh Ghat on Tuesday at 3 p.m. A senior Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Mr. Desai remained Mayor for two years during the BJP rule in the civic body between 1998 and 2002.
