Ready for the rains

The early start of the monsoon may have given little time for people to prepare for the rains. But shops selling umbrellas in Kannur have been geared up for the season, as it is the time of reopening of schools. Those selling umbrellas and schoolbags are doing hectic business. Parents do face difficult choices that may cost them more, as manufacturers of these products have introduced innovations, especially to attract children. The municipal authorities here have been prepared for the rains, as blockages in drains in the town were cleared days in advance. Clogging of drains used to obstruct quick draining of rainwater in the past. District authorities are also prepared for rescue and relief in case of disasters during the rains. The administration has set up a rescue and relief system to meet monsoon calamities.
