PONDICHERRY: Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) leader Tol Tirumavalavan told newsmen here on Tuesday that the Central Government and the Pondicherry administration should bring in necessary legislation to implement the 27 per cent quota for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in higher educational institutions. He said that the step was aimed at establishing social justice and hence should be expeditiously enforced. He said the party in Pondicherry proposed to hold a demonstration here on June 6 in support of this plea and that he would lead the demonstration.
AIADMK ties to stay
The DPI would continue its alliance with the AIADMK for the civic polls in the Union Territory. He stressed that the Tamil Nadu Government should initiate steps to ensure that interests of farmers relying on Cauvery water were protected.
