Clear MUDA proposal to acquire 3,000 acres of land: association

1.5 lakh applicants are awaiting allotment of sites by the MUDA

  • State Government failed to appoint Commissioner for MUDA even after one month
  • MUDA is functioning without a Chairman for more than two years

MYSORE: A citizens' body in Mysore has urged Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to clear Mysore Urban Development Authority's (MUDA) proposal to acquire 3,000 acres of land at the earliest for developing residential layouts and distribution of sites.

In a letter to Mr. Kumaraswamy, who is also holding the urban development portfolio, the Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens of Mysore (ACICM), said the acquisition of 3,000 acres of land would facilitate MUDA to expeditiously distribute sites to long-standing applicants. It may be mentioned here that the former Commissioner of MUDA S.N. Nagaraj, who was suspended later, incurred the wrath of the Chief Minister after he reportedly criticised the Government for the delay in clearing the proposal for acquisition of 3,000 acres for development of residential sites.

ACICM also took exception to the failure of the Government to appoint a successor to Mr. Nagaraj. Though the Director of Abdul Nazir Sab State Institute for Rural Development (ANSSIR) Ashokanand was given additional charge as MUDA Commissioner, he had presently left for a foreign country, Mr. Lakshmana said.

"The State Government has failed to appoint a Commissioner for MUDA even after one month ," he said.

More than 1.5 lakh applicants were awaiting allotment of sites by the MUDA, he noted.

Mr. Lakshmana pointed out that MUDA was without a Chairman for more than two years now.

"The Deputy Commissioner of Mysore district is the acting Chairman of MUDA. But he is overburdened with work," ACICM noted.
