Committee takes out pro-quota rallies in Bellary district

Staff Correspondent

BELLARY: The Bellary District Pro-reservation Action Committee on Tuesday held rallies in all taluk headquarters in the district to garner support for the need for reservation in institutes of higher education.

They also extended support to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the United Progressive Alliance Government who are keen on this proposal. In Bellary, representatives of various Dalit and Other Backward Classes organisations took out a procession from Ambedkar Bhavan and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.

The memorandum accused those with vested interests of posing hurdles in the implementation of reservations for OBCs.

The memorandum said injustice had been meted out to Dalits and OBCs and it was unfortunate that those with vested interests were coming in the way of efforts to uplift the backward classes.

Kallukambha Pampapati, S. Gadilinganagowda, Girimallappa, Y. Nettakallappa, Kamala Mariswamy, A. Manaiah, U. Venkoba and L. Marenna participated in the rallies.
