Hassan KSP to organise sammelana on June 10, 11

Sessions to be held on Hassan's contribution to Kannada literature


  • Main entrance of the sammelana to be named after Veera Ballala
  • President of the sammelana will be taken in a procession through Halebidu
  • Over 1,000 people from various parts of the district are expected to participate in the sammelana

    HASSAN: The district unit of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) will be holding its ninth Kannada Sahitya Sammelana on June 10 and 11 at Pushpagiri Hills in Helebidu. Ki Ram Nagaraj, Director, Centre for Kannada Studies, Bangalore University, has been unanimously chosen as the president of the sammelana. Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, president of the district unit of KSP H.B. Ramesh said that the Director of Kannada Bharathi (Centre for Kannada Studies) in Kuvempu University Sreekanta Koodige would inaugurate the sammelana and president of KSP Chandrashekara Patil would participate in the valedictory programme. The main entrance of the sammelana would be named after Veera Ballala and the auditorium after the Hoysala queen Shanthala, he added. It had also been decided to name the podium after the Hoysala kingdom, which ruled the region and carved a niche for itself in history with a distinctive architectural style.

    The president of the sammelana would be taken in a procession through the main roads of Halebidu, which would be renamed "Patel Shivananje Gowda and Yajaman Siddalingaiah Marga", he added.

    Former president of "Jaanapadaloka" H.J. Lakkappa Gowda would be conferred with the "Sahityashree" award instituted by the H.B. Jwalanaiah Foundation. Sessions on the contribution of Hassan district to Kannada literature and recent trends in Kannada literature and children's literature would be organised, he said. A poetry collection by Metikere Hiriyanna would be released.

    Over 1,000 people from various parts of the district were expected to participate in the sammelana, he said. Sri Nandikeshwara Shivacharya Swamiji of Pushpagiri Math had been made president of the reception committee, he added.
