HASSAN: With the early onset of the monsoon, various parts of Hassan have started receiving rainfall, which has revived agricultural operations. The Malnad regions in the district, including Alur, Belur and Sakleshpur, have received copious rainfall in the past three days. According to sources, Vanagur and Goddu villages in Sakleshpur taluk have received 3 inches of rainfall while Attihalli and Hongadahalla have received 5 inches of rainfall.
Coffee growers
The early rain has caused concern among coffee growers as it is likely to affect the yield. However, potato growers have taken up sowing operations with enthusiasm. According to sources in the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee, farmers have procured over 2,000 quintals of tuber. However, the potato yield may be affected if rain continues to lash the district. The Hemavathi reservoir has registered an increased inflow. According to authorities, the reservoir received 3,000 cusecs of water on Tuesday as against 180 cusecs recorded at the same time last year. The outflow was 850 cusecs. The water level on Tuesday stood at 2876.93 ft as against 2854.30 ft during the corresponding period last year. While Sakleshpur received the highest rainfall of 67.20 mm, Holenarsipur received the lowest rainfall of 5.10 mm. The rainfall received in other taluks is as follows: Alur 15.70 mm, Arkalgudi 10.50 mm, Belur 14.60 mm, Channarayapatna 5.10 mm and Hassan 8.20 mm. Arsikere did not receive any rainfall.
