NEW DELHI: The Centre has given site clearance to the Rajiv Sagar lift irrigation (Dummugudem) project in Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh. The State Government special representative Ravi Mallu announced this here on Tuesday. Dr. Mallu said the project involved both lift-cum-gravity canal, which envisages lifting of 16.17 tmc of water from river Godavari from Pamulapally village in Aswapuram mandal. He said that the water conductor system connects five storage reservoirs of which three reservoirs were already there. The project requires a total of 1980.87 hectares of which 345 hectares is forestland. Dr. Mallu said there would no displacement on account of the project with an estimated expenditure of Rs. 4,000 crores. It would provide irrigation facility to 4 lakh acres in Khammam in two phases.
