Roads battered as monsoon sets in

Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA: The general public are put to hardship with the onset of the monsoon due to apathy of the officials. There had been no timely repair and maintenance of roads in different parts of central Travancore.

The Public Works Department had failed to repair the badly damaged Kuttoor-Vallamkulam road linking the M.C. Road and the T.K. Road before the onset of the monsoon, despite the long-pending public plea.

A portion of the road near the Panchayat junction has been water logged. The situation turned worse with the draining out of waste pipes onto the PWD Road from certain commercial establishments near the Market Junction.

The waterlogged portion of the road has already turned into a pool of water posing health risk to pedestrians.

The grama panchayat authorities have adopted a callous attitude, alleged P.M. Mathews Chakkalathara, Kunjumon and Viswanatha Pillai, residents of the area.

Similarly the Mathilbhagam-Kallingal road in Thiruvalla too was in a bad shape as there had been no timely repair.

The Thiruvalla-Changanassery portion of the M.C. Road has been heavily pot-holed. The PWD authorities were reluctant to initiate repairs saying it has already been included in the Kerala State Transport Project.
