takes charge

Bangalore: Deepak B. Gore, chief general manager, has taken over as officer-in-charge of the Karnataka Regional Office of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). He was with the NABARD head office in Mumbai and also worked in various regional offices of the bank. — Staff Reporter

Foundation stone of SEZ may be laid in June

MANGALORE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said on Tuesday that the foundation stone of the Mangalore Special Economic Zone (SEZ) project was likely to be laid next month.

To a query by presspersons who were travelling with him on a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus from Mangalore to Udupi, the Chief Minister said the Prime Minister was yet to confirm the date for participation in the ceremony. — Staff Correspondent

Halt at station suspended temporarily

HUBLI: South Western Railway has decided to temporarily suspend the halt for the Amaravathi Express (Train Nos. 7225/7226 and 7227/7228) at Daroji Station between Hospet and Bellary in the Hubli division for one month from June 1, a press release said. — Staff Correspondent

Two held with

fake passes

BANGALORE: Vigilance officials of South Western Railway caught two men, including an 87-year-old, who were travelling on fake freedom fighter passes.

South Western Railway said 87-year-old Bachander Singh Tahkur, said to be president of a Freedom Fighters Association in Pathankot district of Punjab, helped others acquire fake passes and travel. The other person was Vishamber Das Verma, also from Pathankot district.

Four other persons with them ran away.

Tahkur and Verma have been handed over to the Railway Police. — Staff Reporter
