`Assessors did not consider State's sources of supply'
Special Correspondent
Bangalore:
The Karnataka Government has said that the assessors appointed by the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal had placed the Cauvery water requirements of Tamil Nadu at 395 tmcft "without going into the sources of supply and the burden on Karnataka at the inter-State border".
Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy's office came out with a clarification adverting to a report in these columns on Tuesday about his ruling out release of 395 tmcft of water to Tamil Nadu.
It also said that the report of the assessors was released by the Registrar of the Tribunal pursuant to the directions of two members of the tribunal on May 10.
Official sources here have said that the Government has questioned the assessors' estimate of the needs of Tamil Nadu and noted that it was on the higher side.
The question of release of 395 tmcft of Cauvery water does not arise at all, sources added.
