Explosion in stationary college bus

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA : Residents of Tadepalli on the city outskirts woke up to a deafening noise of explosion on Monday midnight. The explosion occurred in a college bus, stationed near an apartment complex, adjacent to the national highway No. 5. However, there was no damage to the bus. The reason for the blast is yet to be known.

The Mangalagiri police, who are investigating the case, found an electricity wire and some explosive material at the bus and sent it to the forensic science laboratory in Vijayawada. The CLUES team and sniffer dogs were pressed into service.

The police said the bus belongs to Sri Chaitanya Junior College. Watchmen of the college informed the college management about the explosion. A police complaint was lodged on Tuesday by the college in-charge V. Venkata Subbayya.

While most students were on summer vacation, over 60 students are preparing for Intermediate supplementary examinations in the residential college. The police checked all classrooms, as a precaution.
