NEW DELHI: Former Delhi Mayor Shanti Desai, who passed away in Ahmedabad on Monday, was cremated at Nigambodh Ghat here on Tuesday. Before the cremation, Mr. Desai's body was kept at Ghanta Ghar in Chandni Chowk where the Mayor, Farhad Suri, Councillors, senior Municipal Corporation of Delhi officials including Municipal Commissioner A.K. Nigam and others paid their last tributes. At Nigambodh Ghat, several senior BJP leaders, including former party chief L.K. Advani, spokesperson Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan, Jagdish Mukhi, Sahib Singh Verma and party MLAs were present. Former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana also paid tributes to the departed leader. Senior Delhi Congress leader including DPCC chief Ram Babu Sharma, former Mayor Satbir Singh and party MLAs and Councillors also attended the cremation. Mr. Desai, who served as Mayor of Delhi for two years, had gone to Ahmedabad to meet his relatives. He suddenly fell ill and breathed his last on Monday afternoon.
