CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday assured farmers that talks would be held soon with the Uttar Pradesh Government for providing water from the Agra Canal to Haryana. Addressing a well-attended public meeting at Aurangabad village near Palwal in Faridabad district, he said he would also examine the base determined for paying "abiyana'' to those farmers whose fields were not getting adequate water. The local MLA, Harsh Kumar, demanded that the State Government must cancel the "khatoni'' of those villages which were not getting water from the Canal and had received "abiyana'' notices from the U.P. Government. Mr. Hooda promised to take up the matter with the U.P. Government. He said that efforts were on to complete the long pending developmental works. His regime had initiated various developmental plans and schemes for strengthening the electricity and water supply as well as the law and order situation in the State. At another State level function, he paid rich tributes to the legendary Maharana Pratap on the occasion of Maharana Pratap Jayanti. "Maharana Pratap was a true warrior who spent 20 years of his life in forests but did not surrender before the Mughal Emperor, Akbar, and laid down his life for the integrity of India. The youth must take inspiration from the life of this great soldier and should pledge to safeguard the interests of their state as well the nation," said Mr. Hooda.
