Workshop on traditional games
Madhuram Narayanan Centre for Exceptional Children, a school that trains children with mental retardation, will hold a workshop on Wednesday on traditional games of Tamil Nadu for special educators and teachers in mainstream school.
V. Balambal, a historian who has researched traditional games, will handle the workshop. V. Krishnaswamy, director of the Centre, said the aim of the workshop is to help improve the skills of children.
Games like "dayakattai" (a game of dice popularised in Mahabaratha) and "pallankuzhi" would help the child to acquire coordination and motor skills. Other traditional folk games played predominantly in rural areas will also feature at the workshop. Training teachers in mainstream schools will aid in identifying the need of the children and improving the skills, he added.
