CHENNAI: Rotary Club takes the credit for coming up with innovative ideas. On Monday evening, one had another glimpse of the members' penchant for novelty, when parts of a book on the history of 25-year-old Rotary Club of Madras Central were enacted. The programme lasted nearly half-an-hour when the characters traced interesting idiosyncrasies of its members. One that elicited laughter was about the Club's love for cricket. There have apparently been instances when the members have enrolled people who were "good with the bat and the ball." Sashi Ravichandran, a member of the club for over 15 years, has recorded the club's history. The book, 25 Years: Life from the Rotary Club of Madras Central, the author traces landmark events of the club, including two long-term projects include the Margaret Sidney Hospital in Nanganallur and the TTK Madras Central VHS Blood Bank. The club is also building an orphanage; a school and a senior citizen's home for the tsunami affected people. N. Murali, Managing Director, The Hindu , who released the book, said it was entertaining and well written. He also felicitated the club on its silver jubilee. `Abhirami' Ramanathan received the first copy. R. Shyamsundar, the club's president, appreciated the blend of fellowship and service and called for innovative methods to tackle problems such as road accidents.
Past presidents honoured
The speakers honoured the club's past presidents and the group charter members for their service. Sashi Ravichandran, the author and Ramakrishna Raja, past district governor of the club, also spoke.
