CHENNAI: A cinema operator has been arrested by the Central Crime Branch for screening censored portions of the latest Tamil movie `Kokki' at the Sangam multiplex. According to sources, Venkatesh was detained on Tuesday following a complaint filed by the Central Board of Film Certification member, Varadaraju. Apparently, the movie was screened with an obscene song sequence that had been censored by the Board. The accused has been arrested on charges violating Sections of the Cinematography Act. "We are on the lookout for Sangam multiplex owner, the film's producers Balasubramaniam and Sethu," said a senior official of the Board.
Held on cheating charge
A retired executive of a Chennai-based construction major was arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) on charges of cheating and misappropriation of funds of more than Rs. 1 crore. According to the CCB sources, Seshagiri Rao, who retired in March 2006 as joint general manager from the company's Manapakkam office, created bogus records and submitted bills regarding outsourcing of work between 2003 and 2006. The anomalies came to the company's notice during an audit check. Based on a complaint to the Additional Commissioner of Police, Rao was picked up by the Central Crime Branch police from near his T. Nagar residence. The police have also frozen his bank accounts and stopped the payment of the retirement benefits due from the company.
