Rs. 35 crore sought to remove silt

Special Correspondent

MANGALORE: Mangalore Mayor K. Ashraf has urged Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to release Rs. 35.2 crore to remove silt from storm water drains and rivers flowing near the city.

Mr. Ashraf, who presented a memorandum to the Chief Minister here on Tuesday during a review meeting, noted that as the city was near two major rivers — the Gurupur and the Nethravati — the storm water drains were at a lower level than the river and this obstructed the free flow of storm water into the rivers.
