VIJAYAWADA: Krishna District Consultative Committee (DCC) fixed a target of disbursing Rs 1,170 crores as crop loan to nationalised and rural banks during 2006-07. District Collector Navin Mittal, presiding over the meeting of the committee here on Tuesday, said the number of self-help groups should be increased from 28,000 to 40,000 and the banks should disburse Rs. 175 crores to them.
Loan for tractors
The Collector said support would be extended to 5,000 rythu mitra groups this financial year. Urging bankers to give farmers loans to purchase tractors he said there were only 10,900 tractors in the district, whereas the requirement was 34,500 tractors. The Collector said the Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy had laid the foundation stone for an Information Technology park in the district and an apparel park had been proposed in 1,500 acres near Kanchikacherla. The banks were able to disburse Rs 1,042 crores as crop loan achieving only 82 per cent of Rs 1,272-crore target in the annual credit plan for 2005-06.
Loan recovery
Reserve Bank of India AGM D. Sethi said the formation of self-help groups was slow in the district. However, loan recovery was encouraging. NABARD AGM K.Lakshmi, lead bank manager K.Sivaprasada Rao, DGM of Indian Bank A. Ramachandra Rao, district consultative committee convenor M.Ramachandra Rao, DRDA project director N.Ravi Kumar, Joint director of Agriculture Jagadeeswar Reddy and District Industries Manager Panduranga Rao attended the meeting at the Sub-Collector's office.
