KOCHI: In a coordinated operation, the Shadows, plainclothesmen of City Police, nabbed a convict who escaped from prison at Thrissur. According to the police, Krishnakumar, 25, of Poothotta, was serving sentence for killing a person named Myna, of Pachalam, some months back.
Inter-gang rivalry
Both used to be accomplices in anti-social activities, according to the police, and their rivalry rose out of the latter giving statements against the other. While serving the sentence, the accused feigned mental disturbances and got admitted to Government Mental Hospital, Thrissur. He escaped from the hospital on Tuesday morning by drilling a hole on the wall of the toilet, the police said. As the accused has earlier threatened to kill two more for giving evidences against him, the Special Branch was alerted on getting information about his jail-break. During attempts to keep track of his accomplices, the Shadow personnel narrowed down on him near Lourde Hospital, Pachalam. On being tailed, he started fleeing. During the run, he got injured from the dagger that he was carrying with him. He then went to the General Hospital for treating this injury. However, when he learnt that hospital authorities were warned by the police, he left in a hurry, leaving the dagger behind. He then reported at the Ernakulam Medical Trust, where he was cornered and put under arrest.
