Police hold meeting with bus workers

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The city police on Tuesday held a meeting with representatives of bus operators, bus owners and trade union leaders for bus employees as a run-up to streamlining traffic issues during school reopening.

Bus employees and operators said that parents and teachers should be present at bus bays to ensure that students maintain queues while boarding buses. The police asked the busmen to stop only at bus bays.

Crowding of buses at the bus bay is caused when buses fail to stick to the time schedule. Punching will have to be strictly followed, P. Vijayan, City Police Commissioner, told those who attended the meeting.

Issues like registering cases against pickpockets nabbed from buses, proper follow up of these cases, employees working in buses without conductor licences and door-checkers being allowed to travel on footboard were also discussed at the meeting.
