HYDERBAD: Early rain might have brought much cheer. But the same could upset the grand plans made to celebrate 200 years of Secunderabad. Officials involved in the exercise are keeping their fingers crossed, hoping the skies would hold at least when outdoor events happen. Several events are to be held in the open during the celebrations. These include the carnival on the opening day, heritage motor races and concerts by Remo Fernandes, Daler Mehndi and others. What could really spoil the fun is if the Indian Air Force and the Army are unable to hold their demonstrations, including skydiving, fly past and weapons due to inclement weather. The Defence Ministry has agreed on items like skydiving, Surya Kiran display and fly past by Chetak Helicopters, among others. The IAF has already indicated that unless they do a rehearsal, they will not be able to perform on the scheduled programme days. Other programmes given nod by the Ministry are tank movements and artillery gun deployment drill, to name a few. Visitors to these demonstrations and to the Defence exhibition on June 9 and 10 at Parade Grounds could actually have the ride of their lives on Army tanks and also get a feel of infantry weapons and other artillery equipment. A final confirmation on this is awaited.
