CHENNAI: An Indian Navy vessel laden with relief materials for the earthquake-hit areas of Indonesia set sail from the Chennai port on Tuesday. The INS Tarbar is carrying around 100 tonnes of relief materials including rice, milk powder, medicines, tarpaulin, and insecticides, according to sources at the Chennai Port Trust. Apart from reaching out to those affected, the 300 Naval personnel on board will participate in the relief operations. The journey is expected to take six days with a stopover at Port Blair for refuelling, according to defence sources.
Second vessel
A defence official said another Naval vessel was likely to sail for Indonesia in a couple of days with more assistance. Details regarding the consignment and the port from which it would set sail were being worked out.
