NEW DELHI: The identities of the two persons who were charred to death in a Honda City car that caught fire near Delhi Public School on Mathura Road on Monday night have been established. According to the police, one of the victims has been identified as 42-year-old Surender Singh, who worked as a driver for the car owner, Ramesh Chand Mishra, a doctor by profession. The other body has been identified as that of Deepa (25), a domestic help who worked in the Nizamuddin East area. Dr. Mishra, a resident of Nizamuddin East, told the police that Surender had left around 8 p.m. on Monday to get a flat tyre repaired. He did not return till 9-30 p.m., after which Dr. Mishra tried to contact him over his mobile phone. Not getting any response, Dr. Mishra and his son went out in search of him. They later learnt that a Honda City had caught fire on the flyover near Delhi Public School on Mathura Road. In a similar incident reported this February, a newly engaged couple and their woman friend were charred to death in their Fiat Palio when it caught fire after a truck collided with the vehicle head-on at Malviya Nagar. Sumit Tewari, his fiancée Mamta Tyagi and their friend Jahanvi Roy were returning in the car from a family get-together when the mishap occurred. In both cases, the victims could not come out of the burning cars apparently because the central locking systems were jammed. The fire engulfed the vehicles within seconds and the occupants did not get any time to react.
