NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi re-appointed Rita Bahuguna Joshi All India Mahila Congress president.

The reconstituted committee has six vice-presidents, seven general secretaries and six secretaries.

The vice presidents are, Prabha K. Taviad (Gujarat), Soundaram (Tamil Nadu), Krishna Mohini (Himachal Pradesh), Krishna Gehlawat (Haryana), Kalpana Devi (Andhra Pradesh) and Wansuk Syien (Meghalaya).

The general secretaries, Meera Singh (Uttar Pradesh), Vijayalakshmi Sahoo (Orissa), Kamalakshi Sarma (Delhi), Shobana Shah (Uttar Pradesh), Mahejabeen Khan (Madhya Pradesh), Shikha Kapoor (Bihar) and Saria Khan (Rajasthan) have been appointed general secretaries.

The secretaries are, Nusarat Rive (Chhattisgarh), Indu Pawar (Jammu and Kashmir), Vibha Patel (Madhya Pradesh), Sushil Gupta (Punjab), Manjula Naidu (Karnataka), Simmy Rosebel John (Kerala).

The frontal organisation has also reconstituted a NGO Cell that has Husna Subhani, Ritu Tyagi and Tannu Singh as members.

Abha Choudhary and Pushpa Bonde have been appointed presidents of the Delhi and Maharashtra units.

NEW DELHI: A Class X student, Praveen, allegedly committed suicide at his Bhajanpura residence in North East Delhi on Tuesday evening, having failed to clear his mathematics paper in the recent Central Board of Secondary Education examinations.

The 15-year-old boy, a student at a local government school, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his house and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The boy had a compartment in his mathematics paper and was depressed following his poor score, said his parents.

Live mortars defused

NEW DELHI: The Army's bomb disposal squad defused nine live mortars and artillery charges at Surajkund Palli in neighbouring Faridabad on Tuesday. The explosives were part of the 750-kg metal scrap found dumped in Faridabad on May 22.

The bomb disposal squad, which had been sent from Delhi Cantonment in South-West Delhi, took nearly two hours to defuse the live mortars and artillery charges by controlled explosions.

Two arrested on snatching charge

NEW DELHI: Two young men have been arrested by the Operation Cell of the North-West Delhi police on charges of their involvement in snatching cases. A stolen gold chain has been recovered from their possession.

The accused, Shahne Alam, was arrested near a railway crossing at Shalimar Bagh after a knife was recovered from his person over the weekend. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to his involvement in cases of snatching. At his instance, the police arrested Shakir, a resident of Jehangirpuri, on charges of receiving stolen property.

New Delhi: The city police have arrested a man from Mansarover Park area of east Delhi for peddling animal body parts. .

Himmat Singh, 26, was nabbed on Monday on a complaint by NGO People for Animals, the police said on Tuesday.

Several animal body parts, including tiger nails, were recovered from him.

He has been booked under the Wildlife Protection Act
