Bakshi shoots into the lead

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Rahul Bakshi wrested the lead in the `A' section of the Bangalore Golf Club junior & sub-junior IGU golf tournament after the second round on Wednesday. The Chandigarh junior logged a card of two over 72 to grab a three-stroke lead over Jaibir Singh. Overnight leader Rudresh Sharma dropped to joint third spot with a card of eight over.

Bakshi would have played to two under for the day, were it not for an error of oversight. He failed to notice that there were 15 clubs in his bag when he teed off and when the extra club was noticed on the third hole, he had to the maximum penalty of four strokes added on to his card. Bakshi who putted brilliantly on the second round had five birdies (second, fifth, 13th, 17th and 18th holes) with three of the birdies coming off 15 foot putts. The winds however caused havoc to his driving and he ended up with three bogeys (1st, 8th and 9th) on his card. Rahul is currently second on the all-India merit list just one point behind Jaipur's Amanjyot Singh. Rashid Khan had the day's best card of 71 and he moved into joint third spot in the `A' section.

Bangalore's sub-junior caddie Chikkarangappa covered the two-stroke deficit of the first round to share the lead with Rommel Majumdar in the `B' category. `Chikka' carded ten over while Rommel had a card of 12 over for the second round.
