Punjab girls in last eight

Ludhiana: Punjab defeated Uttar Pradesh 58-34 in the girls' section to secure a berth in the quarterfinals of the 57th Dhanoa junior National basketball championship here on Wednesday.

Other teams which have advanced to the last-eight stage include holder Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Kerala.

In the boys' section, the pre-quarterfinal match between Tamil Nadu and Kerala turned out to be a see-saw battle. Kerala went into an early lead and kept it up till the end of the second quarter (43-38). In the third quarter, Tamil Nadu played with vigour and their attempts bore fruit as they ended up winning 84-82.

Boys: Tamil Nadu bt Kerala 84-82; Uttar Pradesh bt Orissa 94-78; Tamil Nadu bt Gujarat 71-46; Rajasthan bt Kerala 103-76; Delhi bt Andhra Pradesh 108-86; Madhya Pradesh bt Jammu & Kashmir 44-10.

Girls: Punjab bt Uttar Pradesh 58-34; Andhra Pradesh bt Uttaranchal 63-40; Delhi bt Uttaranchal 73-53; Karnataka bt Rajasthan 61-27; Madhya Pradesh bt Pondicherry 63-22; Maharashtra bt Jharkhand 56-23. — PTI
